Coach Dustin Cooper explains his sixth grade charges had to fight though some adversity to pull out a 35-30 win against Switzerland County. The mustangs were plagued by foul problems and point guard Matthew Arthur was not 100 percent due to a wrist injury suffered in Saturdays game.
“We battled though it”, said Cooper, “Defense and rebounding will definitely be the focus as the travel ball season goes forward”.
Guard Paul Giltner was credited by the coach for his ball handling in the second half to take some of the pressure off Arthur. “He stepped up for us,” stated Cooper.
The outcome of the game was in doubt until the the final minute of play. Cooper credits sturdy forward Hunter Clayton for sealing the win with an old fashioned three point play as he was found on a shot in the paint and hit the free throw to keep the mustangs on top.
